‘Symbiosis’ is a capsule hotel apartment set in the Soho area of New York that introduces and educates visitors and occupants the combination of city life and urban farming.

The project explores how can the city consumerism that is currently a single direction of exploitation to the environment be modified in the future with another system of living through accomplishing the opposite, to live and work towards a system of collaboration in symbiosis with nature.

Starting from the fourth floor, a “green stair” provides a private residential circulation from floor 4-6, where the living capsules locate. There are planting containers along the stair, with landings connecting to the capsule levels.
Design goal is to provide small affordable living capsules, encouraging visitors to engage into the urban farming activities and community.
